Portfolio Brand Color & Typography Ratification — Work Plan

Objective

Formally ratify the color-palette and typography proposals reviewed with the Founder on 2026-07-30 for all three brands (Devonshire Digital LLC, Devonside Labs, Shelfery), record each as an ADR, and update the governing documents so they no longer describe these items as open. Also begin vectorizing a new candidate Shelfery logo mark (jar-on-shelf) supplied by the Founder — the mark itself is a separate, not-yet-approved decision from the color/typography ratification.

Scope

  • One ADR per entity ratifying its color palette (and, for Shelfery, typography).
  • Updates to docs/company/brand-assets.md, ventures/digital-products/docs/brand-assets.md, ventures/digital-products/docs/strategy/brand-and-positioning.md, ventures/shelfery/docs/strategy/brand-and-positioning.md, and creation of ventures/shelfery/docs/brand-assets.md (did not previously exist).
  • ADR index updates in all three docs/decisions/README.md files.
  • Vectorization of the Founder-supplied Shelfery mark reference image into a master SVG plus colorway exports, following the established GIMP/Inkscape brand-asset pipeline (work/active/2026-07-11-brand-assets-and-gimp-workflow.md).

Out of scope

  • The Shelfery wordmark lockup — the Founder is still selecting a direction with ChatGPT-generated candidates; not decided in this session.
  • Formal approval of the Shelfery mark itself — the Founder called it "a pretty good read," not an explicit approval instruction; it is registered as a candidate, not approved.
  • Any Devonside Labs mark recoloring to the newly-approved teal/amber system — the existing navy/white mark colorway exports remain valid; recoloring is a follow-up, not required here.

Applicable authority

docs/governance/decision-rights.md and ADR-0011 govern the agent performing status/approval edits: the Founder, in this interactive session, explicitly instructed ADR creation and marking items Approved, for the specific documents this plan covers.

Files expected to change

  • docs/decisions/ADR-0018-*.md (new), docs/decisions/README.md
  • docs/company/brand-assets.md
  • ventures/digital-products/docs/decisions/DD-DIGPROD-ADR-0004-*.md (new), ventures/digital-products/docs/decisions/README.md
  • ventures/digital-products/docs/brand-assets.md, ventures/digital-products/docs/strategy/brand-and-positioning.md
  • ventures/shelfery/docs/decisions/DD-SHELFERY-ADR-0001-*.md (new), ventures/shelfery/docs/decisions/README.md
  • ventures/shelfery/docs/strategy/brand-and-positioning.md
  • ventures/shelfery/docs/brand-assets.md (new)
  • brand/ventures/shelfery/source/, brand/ventures/shelfery/exports/ (new mark files)

Assumptions

  • "Fully accepting the brand colors and typography choices that were suggested" refers to the palette/typography proposals reviewed in this same conversation (a Claude-Code-generated artifact comparing all three brands), not to any prior undocumented conversation.
  • The Founder is the role with brand-approval authority per docs/governance/decision-rights.md.

Risks

  • None flagged as high-risk; this is a documentation/governance change plus a non-destructive asset-creation task (no existing approved asset is being altered).

Validation plan

python scripts/check.py after all document edits.

Progress checklist

  • [x] Work plan written.
  • [x] Three ADRs drafted and marked approved (ADR-0018, DD-DIGPROD-ADR-0004, DD-SHELFERY-ADR-0001).
  • [x] Governing documents updated to reflect ratified status.
  • [x] ADR indexes updated.
  • [x] Shelfery mark vectorized (GIMP raw trace of lid/jar/shelf for provenance + hand-built tangent-continuous master SVG + terracotta/cream colorway exports + square badge composite), registered as a candidate (not approved) in the new ventures/shelfery/docs/brand-assets.md.
  • [x] python scripts/check.py run and passing.

Handoff notes

  • The jar-on-shelf mark is a faithful but not pixel-exact reconstruction — see "Known simplifications" in ventures/shelfery/docs/brand-assets.md. If the Founder wants a tighter match to the reference (particularly the two-stage neck taper), the master SVG (brand/ventures/shelfery/source/shelfery-mark.svg) is the file to hand-edit in Inkscape.
  • The mark and the wordmark lockup are both still open decisions, tracked separately from this session's color/typography ratification.

Decisions required

None outstanding — the Founder made the color/typography decisions in the same session this plan records.
