Company Overview¶
What Devonshire Digital LLC is¶
Devonshire Digital LLC is a parent company and product-development organization capable of operating multiple ventures, each with its own brand, customer base, and technology stack. The company's role is to originate, fund, govern, and support ventures — not to be a single product itself.
A venture under Devonshire Digital may build a mobile app, a web application, a spreadsheet-based product, or something not yet conceived. The company is defined by its function (developing and operating digital products through distinct ventures) rather than by any one venture's current output.
What Devonshire Digital LLC is not¶
To avoid scope creep in how the company describes itself, the following framings are explicitly rejected:
- Not solely an "Excel template company." Digital Products currently produces Excel-based workbooks, but that is one venture's current product line, not a description of the parent company. Future ventures are not constrained to spreadsheets.
- Not a consulting company. The company builds and operates its own products for its own ventures; it does not sell services or billable hours to external clients as its business model.
- Not a software company in the narrow sense of selling developer tools or enterprise software licenses. Its ventures may or may not involve custom software; that is a venture-level decision, not a company-defining trait.
- Not a passive holding company. Devonshire Digital LLC is operationally involved in setting governance, standards, and shared principles across ventures (see
docs/governance/authority-and-inheritance.md) — it is not merely a legal wrapper around unrelated businesses.
Structure¶
Devonshire Digital LLC
├── Shelfery (venture, provisional branding)
├── Digital Products (venture, working name)
└── [future ventures]
Each venture may have its own brand identity, its own customers, and its own technology choices, constrained only by company-wide governance (legal structure, documentation standards, trust and evidence principles, responsible-AI principles) rather than by a single shared product template. See docs/company/brand-architecture.md for how branding is deliberately kept independent per venture, and docs/company/terminology.md for precise definitions of "venture," "product," and "component."
Current state¶
As of this writing, the company is early-stage. It has:
- Two named ventures in provisional or working-name status (Shelfery, Digital Products).
- No shipped product code inside this repository — this repository governs documentation and rules, not product implementation.
- A documentation-first governance approach, intended to establish clear rules before scaling headcount, product lines, or external commitments.
This overview will be revised as ventures mature and as the company's actual operating pattern becomes clearer through practice rather than prediction.
