ADR-0013: Shelfery Platform, Sharing Model, and AI Feature Ratified¶
Status¶
approved — ratified by the Founder on 2026-07-11.
Date¶
2026-07-11
Context¶
The 2026-07-11 reconciliation of this repository with the pantryplus implementation repository
surfaced several product/architecture decisions that had already been made and shipped in practice
(recorded as Q2, Q6, Q8 in ventures/shelfery/docs/strategy/assumptions-and-open-questions.md),
but had not been ratified at the governance layer. Rather than continue treating shipped, working
product decisions as merely "de facto" indefinitely, the Founder ratified them directly.
Decision¶
- Target platform (Q2): Shelfery's target platform is a mobile-first web PWA (iPhone-first, "Add to Home Screen"). A native app wrapper is deliberately out of scope for now.
- Household sharing model (Q6): Shelfery supports multi-user households with admin/member roles, invites, and revocation, as already shipped.
- AI-assisted features (Q8): AI photo-based product identification (via the Anthropic API), with per-household usage caps, is a sanctioned, shipped feature. Further proposed AI features (meal ideas, category classification) are not ratified by this decision and remain proposed only.
Consequences¶
ventures/shelfery/docs/strategy/assumptions-and-open-questions.mdQ2, Q6, and Q8 are marked decided rather than "answered de facto, pending ratification."ventures/shelfery/docs/ai/guardrails.mdneeds a follow-up revision to formally cover the shipped AI photo-identification feature (it was written before this feature was ratified here).- Native app development, and any further AI feature beyond photo-based product identification, still require a separate decision before being treated as sanctioned direction.
Alternatives Considered¶
- Continue treating these as open pending a fuller product-requirements pass. Rejected: the features are already live in production and serving users; withholding ratification indefinitely only kept this repository's records inaccurate without changing anything about the product.
Follow-up Actions¶
- Revise
ventures/shelfery/docs/ai/guardrails.mdto reflect the ratified AI photo-identification feature. - Continue tracking the remaining proposed-but-unshipped AI features (meal ideas, category classification) as future decisions, not covered here.
