Mission and Vision

Status note: this document is status: proposed, not approved. It reflects an initial, practical framing based on how the company operates today, and is expected to be revised as ventures mature. It should not be quoted externally as a finalized company statement.

Mission

Devonshire Digital LLC builds durable, useful digital products that reduce friction in everyday household and professional workflows.

Unpacked:

  • Durable — products should keep working and keep being useful well past their first release, not be abandoned after launch.
  • Useful — every product should solve a real, specific problem for a real user, not exist because a technology was available.
  • Reduce friction — the target is workflows that are currently manual, error-prone, or annoying: keeping track of pantry inventory, managing repetitive planning tasks, building calculations by hand in a spreadsheet.
  • Household and professional workflows — the company is not limited to one context. Shelfery targets a household use case (pantry management); Digital Products targets professional/personal productivity use cases (workbooks, planning tools).

Vision

Apply technology, analytics, design, and automation thoughtfully — not as ends in themselves — to build products that people trust and can rely on, and that the company itself can understand, maintain, and support over time.

Unpacked:

  • Thoughtfully, not reflexively — the company does not add automation, AI, or complexity to a product because it is fashionable. Every added mechanism should be justified by the problem it solves.
  • Customer trust as a priority — see docs/company/customer-trust-principles.md for the concrete commitments this implies (accuracy, transparency about limitations, no dark patterns).
  • Understandable and maintainable — products should be buildable and supportable by a small team without requiring undocumented tribal knowledge. This is a direct constraint on architectural and design choices, not just an aspiration; see docs/company/product-philosophy.md.

Why this is provisional

This mission and vision were written early, before the company has multiple shipped products or meaningful customer feedback. They are a starting point for decision-making, not a settled identity. They should be revisited:

  • After the first product from each current venture reaches real customers.
  • If a new venture's nature doesn't fit this framing well.
  • On the standard annual review cycle at minimum.

Until formally approved by the Founder role, treat this document as directional guidance, not binding company doctrine.
