Devonside Labs — Candidate Brand Assets¶
This is the venture-level counterpart to
docs/company/brand-assets.md: the record of what
Devonside Labs brand assets exist as candidates versus what is actually approved. A file's
presence in brand/ventures/digital-products/ does
not by itself mean it is approved — it must be listed here with an explicit approval note.
Current state¶
The "B3" mark, its square badge / favicon composite, and its wordmark lockup are all approved.
The Founder approved the mark on 2026-07-17, after a manual cleanup pass on the data-stream field's
path geometry; approved the square badge composite the same day after a recalibration pass (see
work/archive/2026-07-16-devonside-labs-b3-mark.md's 2026-07-17 addendum for both); and approved
the wordmark lockup (single line, ALL CAPS, Montserrat Medium) after reviewing the rendered vector
output — see below. "B3" remains a working label, not a product/naming decision.
The "B3" mark — provenance and status¶
- Origin: a Founder-supplied ChatGPT reference image
(
C:\Users\Stuart\.claude\uploads\8e92a826-a373-4caa-8c1b-22dbefac2fbc\ad2db802-327777A5BDA34D4C97C594350993C462.jpeg, 228×209px), showing a "D" mark with the D's stem corners melting into a scatter of rounded-rectangle "data stream" bars and dots. A copy is kept atbrand/ventures/digital-products/exports/b3-mark-reference.jpgfor provenance. - The "D" glyph is the approved Devonshire Digital LLC "D" mark, reused byte-for-byte — see
DD-DIGPROD-ADR-0002(status: approved, 2026-07-17) for the brand-architecture decision this represents. - The decorative "data-stream" field went through three attempts in one 2026-07-16 session, each rejected or superseded by the next:
- A literal construction from a textual row/count spec (7 primary streams, 3 secondary, 3 dots, specific height/radius rules) — read as too rigid/mechanical ("barcode/equalizer"-like) once rendered.
- A hand-drawn "melt-flag" guess (cubic Bezier teardrop shapes fused to the D's corners) built from eyeballing the reference image — closer in concept, but the Founder asked for a more rigorous approach: trace the actual reference image and measure the actual elements rather than hand-guess the geometry.
- Current: the D path was registered pixel-for-pixel against the reference image (94.8% overlap) to mathematically isolate the two "melting corner" shapes and the 9 floating bar/dot elements; the corners were traced (OpenCV contour extraction + simplification + Catmull-Rom-to-Bezier smoothing) and the bars/dots were measured directly (connected-component bounding boxes, the same method used for the Devonshire mark's squares). The Founder's reaction at the time: "It's closer but let's stop here for now" — an improvement, not yet final. On 2026-07-17 the Founder manually redrew/smoothed the two melting-corner paths directly in Inkscape (removing the earlier filler rects, no longer needed) and approved the result; see the work log's 2026-07-17 addendum for the exact geometry sync across files.
- Files (all reflect the approved 2026-07-17 geometry): master
brand/ventures/digital-products/source/b3-mark.svg, colorway exportsbrand/ventures/digital-products/exports/b3-mark-{navy,white}.svgandb3-mark-{navy,white}-{256,1024}.png. A square badge / favicon-style composite,brand/ventures/digital-products/exports/b3-mark-square-badge-navy-256.png, was produced 2026-07-17 viascripts/gimp_compose_badge.py(navy#0D1B2Abackground, white mark, 256×256). The script's plain default centering (a 154×154 request against a non-square SVG aspect) first produced a badge the Founder felt looked too small and shifted north of center; measuring the rendered ink bounding box showed the default request was letterboxing inside its own box. Fixed by passing explicit--mark-size 189 162 --offset 32 47, calibrated from the SVG's actual content margins (measured offb3-mark-white-1024.png) so the rendered ink lands centered. Result: ink bounding box ~149×128px centered at (127.5, 120) on the 256×256 canvas — closely matching the Devonshire "D" mark's own square badge (~147×124 centered at (127.5, 120)), so the two badges now read as the same visual weight/placement. Approved by the Founder, 2026-07-17. - Full method and history: see
work/archive/2026-07-16-devonside-labs-b3-mark.md.
Wordmark lockup — built 2026-07-17¶
The Founder reviewed a live, interactive comparison of lockup candidates (real vector marks, real
Montserrat Medium, not flattened mockups) and selected, for Devonside Labs: ALL CAPS, single-line
"DEVONSIDE LABS," in both horizontal and stacked orientation — no two-line treatment, unlike
Devonshire Digital LLC's lockup (see docs/company/brand-assets.md).
Typeface is shared with Devonshire Digital LLC: Montserrat Medium, per the Founder's explicit
instruction ("I want to use the same typography across both... same typeface family is enough"),
recorded as a 2026-07-17 amendment to
DD-DIGPROD-ADR-0002. The
Founder was also explicit that visual differentiation between the two brands' lockups doesn't need
extra typographic work — the surrounding field (data-stream bars/dots vs. Devonshire's pixelation
squares) already carries that job ("I wouldn't worry about differentiation too much... squares vs.
streams should be enough").
Production files (Montserrat Medium glyphs outlined to vector paths — no live font dependency,
matching the standalone mark's own convention):
brand/ventures/digital-products/source/b3-mark-lockup-horizontal.svg,
b3-mark-lockup-stacked.svg,
plus navy/white exports in brand/ventures/digital-products/exports/. Approved by the Founder,
2026-07-17, after confirming the rendered vector output matched the interactive review — see
Asset register.
Color palette — approved 2026-07-30¶
Per DD-DIGPROD-ADR-0004, Devonside Labs has its own approved color palette, distinct from the inherited Devonshire Digital navy used in the mark exports above:
| Token | Value | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Ledger Teal | #1F4B4C |
Primary |
| Graphite | #17262A |
Body text; dark-mode ground |
| Audit Amber | #D9A441 |
Trust-signal accent — "verified/reviewed" marks only, not decorative |
| Paper | #F4F6F5 |
Ground |
| Sage-teal | #6E8B87 |
Secondary text, table gridlines |
| Flag Red | #C4574A |
Semantic — formula error / out-of-balance state |
This governs marketing collateral, the marketing site, and marketplace listings. It does not
change the in-workbook cell-color convention (workbook-visual-design-standard.md), and it does
not require recoloring the existing navy/white mark exports above — those remain valid; a teal
colorway is an optional future addition, not a requirement.
Also per DD-DIGPROD-ADR-0004: Inter for body/marketing copy, and a tabular monospace face (e.g. Consolas) for spreadsheet-derived figures quoted outside Excel — both approved alongside the color palette, extending the already-approved Montserrat Medium wordmark typeface.
Still open¶
Nothing outstanding for color or typography. Remaining open items for this venture are tracked in
strategy/brand-and-positioning.md
(tagline, brand voice guidelines).

How an asset gets added here¶
Same process as the company-level register — see
docs/company/brand-assets.md.
An agent may draft a proposed row after producing a candidate export but must not mark it
approved.
